At a minimum, you would need to sterilize the needle and regularly disinfect the piercing afterwards.

Your best bet would be to heat the needle red-hot over a flame before using it. If that sounds pleasant to do yourself, go ahead.

Honestly that's the most useful info anyone's given me on doing it right, so thanks man!

Definitely not doing it to myself though. If I try they're gonna wind up crooked or uneven or something.

[...This guy is really determined to give himself a new infection right after recovering from the last one, huh.]

You'll need to keep disinfecting your ear afterwards, too. If you can't find rubbing alcohol, vodka or gin are your best bet.

[Or just, you know, being smart and not doing this. But that doesn't seem to be on the table.]

[Why would that ever be on the table when he can get his ears pierced??]

vodka or gin if I can't get rubbing alcohol, got it.
Do you know how long it takes to heal?

I know the earrings stay in for a while 'cause the holes can close up

Sorry, I don't. I can give you general wound care tips, but I've never had piercings.

That's cool, this is still a good start!
And wound care's totally something good to know around here.
